Bal Harbour
Bal
Harbour Village stretches across approximately one-third of a mile of
beautiful coastline from the bay to the Atlantic Ocean in northeast Miami-Dade
County.
This once famous retreat for the rich and famous has a population of
3,305 residents and is one of the smallest municipalities in Miami-Dade
County. Residents and visitors alike enjoy the stunning sunrises over
the clear blue Atlantic, perfectly kempt white sand beaches and spectacular
sunsets on the Everglades.
Harland Bartholomew and associates designed Bal Harbour in the 1930s
but it wasnt until after World War II that construction and civilian settlement
began in earnest. Crews had to build seawalls, fill swampland and create
the yacht basin before plans could be drawn up to build water pumping
stations, sewer systems and utilities, the latter of which were placed
underground. Developers then drafted plans for development of the beachfront
and residential areas.
Currently Bal Harbour Village is comprised of several high-rise condominiums
offering beautiful ocean views, luxurious bayside homes, residential homes
and hotels. It is conveniently located near the Miami and Fort Lauderdale
International Airports and south beach and its Art Deco district. Many
folks come here just to stroll through the famous Bal Harbour Shops and
marvel at the many distinct high-end boutiques selling garments created
by internationally renowned designers. Add to this fine gourmet dining,
entertainment and sizzling nightlife and its no wonder that hundreds of
thousands visit this Atlantic oasis.
